Kjorn and Shard from Jess Owen's / "Song of the Summer King." They have a really interesting dynamic as best friends that have to take different paths from one another as they come of age that I thought deserved a calmer moment from when things were simpler between them. I have yet to read the sequel despite its ready availability on Amazon for Kindle, but I'm planning to preorder from jessowen.com ASAP to get a pretty hardcover copy with Jennifer Miller's droolworthy art on the dust jacket. Jess sent me a mini-print of the cover via facebook after I got drawn out of a like/share giveaway and I was absolutely thrilled, so I thought she deserved a little fanart of the besties (and a shameless ad too!) But seriously, guys - this is all coming out of this new self-publishing trend with kickstarter campaigns and I think it's fantastic. There's not enough griffin/gryfon literature out there and I for one am thrilled to have such a talented author and her cast of brilliant characters on the case to remedy that.
